VDA Seminar - "Conquering Debt: A Shared Mission" | Riverside, IA · September 17, 2026

Retired U.S. Navy Chief Warrant Officer Angel Torres brought our financial education seminar to the National Disabled Veterans Golf Clinic (NDVGC) in Riverside, Iowa. Another meaningful stop on a growing journey that proves no veteran, and no veteran family, has to face financial challenges alone. The session brought veterans and their caregivers together for an open, practical conversation about debt, budgeting, and building stability after service.

The session reflected a core principle behind VDA's nationwide outreach: that practical financial education should be brought directly to the communities where veterans live, serve, and gather. Just as the NDVGC helps veterans discover what's possible through adaptive sports, we aim to help veterans and their families discover what's possible when they have the right financial knowledge and resources. For caregivers, who so often manage household finances alongside their daily responsibilities, the session offered tools they can put to use right away.

Presented by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and DAV (Disabled American Veterans), the NDVGC is a week-long adaptive golf program built on a simple yet powerful belief: that recreation can be a pathway to rehabilitation. Each year, the clinic instructs veterans with life-changing disabilities in adaptive golf, while also introducing them to a wide range of other adaptive recreational sports. Hosted at the Riverside Hotel and Golf Resort, the week brings participants to courses throughout the Iowa City area, with alternative activities that have historically included chair yoga, cornhole, disc golf, kayaking, tai chi, virtual reality experiences, and much more.

For VDA, participating in this event was a natural extension of our partnership with DAV and our shared commitment to the well-being of veterans and their families. DAV expressed its gratitude to VDA for taking part and for our continued dedication to its mission, and we are equally grateful for the opportunity to recognize the vital role caregivers play every single day.
