Retired U.S. Navy Chief Warrant Officer Angel Torres discusses financial wellness with veterans.

VDA Seminar - "Conquering Debt: A Shared Mission" | Aurora, IL · August 18, 2026

On August 18, 2026, we proudly brought our nationwide outreach tour to American Legion Post 84 in Aurora, Illinois. Another powerful stop on a growing journey that proves no veteran has to face financial challenges alone. The evening brought veterans and military families together for a meaningful gathering centered on financial wellness and debt education, filled with honest conversation, connection, and hope.

This event marked the latest chapter in our ongoing outreach initiative, led by retired U.S. Navy Chief Warrant Officer Angel Torres. A mission built on a simple yet powerful belief: that practical financial education should be brought directly to the communities where veterans live, serve, and gather.

"Veterans and their families are looking for people they can trust to provide guidance," Torres shared. "Our goal is to create a comfortable environment where people can ask questions, talk openly about their challenges and leave with a better understanding of their options." That spirit of trust and openness was felt throughout the evening, as attendees engaged in candid dialogue and discovered they were part of something bigger than themselves.

The Aurora gathering marked the third American Legion post visited during the Illinois leg of the tour—with additional stops already scheduled in communities across the state and beyond. As the tour continues to build momentum, each event reinforces VDA's deeply held belief that creating opportunities for honest dialogue is the first step toward meaningful, lasting change for veterans and their families.

"Financial stability begins with knowledge and access to the right resources," Torres said. "Our mission extends beyond dollars and cents. If one conversation helps someone take the next step forward, then we've made a difference." It's that heartfelt purpose that drives VDA forward, one community and one conversation at a time, and we invite you to follow the journey, learn more, and discover how you, too, can be part of the mission.
