VDA And South Carolina Veteran Affairs Partner to Advance Financial Wellness for Veterans
A new VDA partnership is bringing trusted financial education directly to South Carolina's veterans. The collaboration began in Washington, DC, when South Carolina Veteran Affairs Deputy Director Daniel Wrightsman heard Angel Torres, Senior Vice President of Military Veteran Outreach at Veteran Debt Assistance (VDA), describe the tools and resources VDA has built on its veterandebtassistance.org website. Wrightsman saw how these resources could help veterans in his state understand their finances, manage debt, and build long-term stability. Both leaders are alumni of the G.W. Bush Stand To Veteran Fellowship program, and that shared background quickly turned a conversation into a plan of action.
Within weeks, the two organizations were working side by side to choose which VDA content and tools would be featured on South Carolina Veteran Affairs' Smart Start page. For the state agency, the value was clear. Instead of building new resources from scratch, it could offer veterans proven, veteran-focused guidance on financial wellness and getting out of debt, available through a website they already know and trust. The new financial resource page launched on July 16, 2026, giving South Carolina's veteran community convenient access to practical education when they need it.
The partnership has continued to grow since the launch. On October 15, VDA will speak at and mentor participants in the Pee Dee Veteran Entrepreneurship Forum, extending its support to veterans who are building businesses and planning their financial futures. The event marks the next step in a relationship that has moved from shared resources to direct, in-person engagement with the veteran community.
VDA is proud to work alongside state agencies like South Carolina Veteran Affairs to bring the best financial education tools to the veterans of South Carolina and across the nation. The collaboration shows what is possible when public and private organizations share a commitment to those who served. By combining resources and expertise, they can help more veterans take control of their finances and move confidently toward a debt-free future.
