VDA Seminar — "Conquering Debt: A Shared Mission" | Northbrook, IL · April 21, 2026

Empowering Chicago-Area Veterans on the Path to Financial Wellness

On April 21, 2026, Veteran Debt Assistance proudly welcomed veterans and their families from American Legion Post 791 in Northbrook, IL for a special evening at the beautiful Heritage Oaks Golf Club—a night that proved no veteran has to navigate financial challenges alone. The gathering brought together approximately 75 attendees for an unforgettable evening of dinner, fellowship, and an important, heartfelt conversation about financial wellness within the veteran community.

At the heart of the evening was a compelling presentation titled "Conquering Debt: A Shared Mission," led by two distinguished veterans who have answered the call to serve once again—this time on the financial front. Angel Torres (U.S. Navy Chief Warrant Officer, Retired) and Steve Parker (U.S. Army Colonel, Retired) spoke candidly about the financial and emotional challenges so many veterans face during the transition to civilian life. Their engaging, encouraging message focused on empowering veterans with real, actionable strategies to build healthier financial habits and restore a sense of confidence and stability. Just as importantly, they highlighted a vital truth—that engaging leaders, building meaningful partnerships, and expanding access to critical resources can transform lives across the veteran community.

The evening was further elevated by the presence of a distinguished special guest: Terry Prince, Director of the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs. His remarks struck a powerful chord, reinforcing the importance of standing behind those who served through access to resources, steadfast advocacy, and genuine community engagement.

As the night came to a close, the room was filled with a strong sense of connection and shared purpose, as attendees reflected on the lasting value of financial education. Veteran Debt Assistance is deeply honored to support these meaningful conversations alongside community partners and leaders who are committed to equipping veterans with the tools, knowledge, and support to navigate financial challenges with confidence and dignity. This evening was just one chapter in an ongoing mission—and we invite you to learn more and discover how you, too, can be part of it.
